Robert was always a good friend. We went to Simis together and were always in the same class. Then we went to Central together, too. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a healthy way of looking at life. It shocked me when he died right after high school graduation. If I remember correctly, he went to Mexico to help with some project, got sick and died there. Actually, I still miss him in some ways because I have so many nice memories of him.      Ann Poladian Zindel

I remember Robert from English class at Central. He was brilliant and kind.

Such a loss. Bob Newcomb made being smart and inquisitive "cool." He also was very compassionate as he quietly helped many of us through awkward times.

Edith, how nice to read your comments.  Certainly I veiwed both you and Robert as remarkably clever and academically impressive.  Indeed, Robert had a gentle quality and though I didn't know him or you well, I could see that. I don't know why I knew it, but I had heard that he died very young. We had many classmates who where very academically strong in high school, and as I read our notes, many more whose youthful academic foundations really blossomed into interesting adult careers. It is a grave loss that in high school kids too often underestimate the diversity and strength of their fellows.  We all miss out when that happens.

I remember Robert and I were in the same government class and one of the requirements was that we had to go sit in on a court case. We decided to go together and he was kind enough to come pick me up and we went downtown and sat in the courtroom for a couple of hours. We listened to the case, took notes, and had an great evening. Really a nice guy. I have thought of that many times in the past. Rest in peace dear friend.
